What is Music Therapy?

guitarMusic therapy is a systematic process where the therapist helps the client to develop and maintain health & wholeness, using musical experiences and activities tailored to meeting the individual needs of the person.

Since ancient history music has been used as a therapeutic medium in different cultures. The emergence of music as a clinically applied medium for treatment administered by trained professionals has developed over the past 50 years.

What does Music Therapy offer?

One of the aims of music therapy is to create an environment where individuals are able to express themselves in ways they may not be able to express using words alone.

Music therapy sessions may include the use of active music making, music listening, movement and discussion. Positive outcomes may include a sense of enjoyment and satisfaction, group belonging and trust, social skills development, diversion from daily routine and an avenue to express one’s feelings.

Music Therapy can help provide a safe and structured environment for you to explore your emotions, develop confidence, communication skills, a sense of belonging and achievement.
